Case Study- Interior Design Moodboard Workshop

How attending a moodboard workshop helped transform a living room:-

When Lucie Selby bought a ticket to one of our moodboard workshops in Manningtree Essex, she had a clear vision in mind about the space that she wanted to create. Little did she know that it wouldn’t be the space that she left with.

Now a graphic designer, Lucie’s degree was actually in Interior Design. Having moved away from the field and looking to transform a room in her home, she bought a ticket to one of our evening moodboard workshops. With creativity being a love of Lucie’s, she was keen to design a board for herself but with the guidance of us her at Danielle Rumble Interiors.

Lucie’s brief for her living room/dining room was to update her old blue scheme with outdated feature wallpaper and create a more cohesive design. Initially with the idea of predominantly green palette, whilst allowing each space to have its own identity.

Throughout the evening Lucie followed steps put in place to reach her desired look. We asked her questions like, How do you want to feel in the space? What’s its use? Who will use it?

Following this we asked all attendees to look through magazines and without any conscious or structured decision making, to simply tear out images that they were drawn to. Later these images were then edited based on their answers to the initial questions. For example if an attendee has described their space as one of calmness, solitude and quiet but chosen images that were pillar box red, these would be discarded as the function of the space would not be represented in the colour.

Once the evening drew to its conclusion, Lucie quickly realised that the images she has been drawn to and the process in which she had followed had lead her to a different outcome. One of unconscious reasoning but that fitted her initial brief.

Lucie took the moodboard home and used it as a tool in her decision making. She chose paint colours and furniture based on the conclusions that she’d come to at the event. It gave her a clear vision and allowed her to stay on track and not be swayed but other possible options.

Lucie was kind enough to leave a review of the event and this is what she had to say:

“I had a gorgeous evening with Danielle on her interiors moodboard workshop. I went in with an idea of what I wanted and over the course of the evening, that definitely shifted to something I’m now really excited about and feel far better placed to actually see it through. The small group session was so useful to focus on a task and explore ideas with expert guidance.

I would definitely go again for a different room! Thank you Danielle for a brilliant few hours- will let you know how I get on!”

Lucie has since completed the room redecoration and everything from paint colours, sofa choices, soft furnishings and artwork, were all chosen more confidently as a result. Looking at the moodmoard and finished photos, you can really see how closely they align.

Creating a moodboard for your home its a fun way of allowing you to see the space come together and use it as a guide for your future decoration. Why not come along to our next workshop to creatively build you dream space.
