07 Nov Tips to Keep Your Home Cosy This Winter
I don’t know about you but as the days grow shorter and temperatures drop, our house becomes our sanctuary from the outdoors.
Autumn/Winter is the perfect time to lean into comfort, layering textures, lighting, and warmth to create a space that feels both inviting and up lifting.
We aren’t a design company that wants you to redecorate your home for each season but making some small adjustments can enhance your interiors as the elements outside change. Here are some interior design tips to make your home feel warmer this winter.

Textures are key to creating layered warmth. Combine soft wools, chunky knits, velvets, and natural linens to add depth and warmth to your rooms. Layer throws over sofas, drape blankets across beds, and add cushions in mixed materials for a rich, tactile feel. The key is contrast, smooth paired with ruffled and soft with structured.
Winter doesn’t have to mean dark and heavy. Introducing warmer, earthy tones like terracotta, caramel and deep olive can give a sense of calmness. Accent neutrals with rust and mustard for a soft, cocooning effect. We’re not saying paint a wall but simply changing a cushion cover or piece of art can completely shift the mood of a room.
Natural light is limited in winter, so layer your artificial lighting. Use a mix of ambient and accent lighting to create atmosphere. Here at DRI we love layered lighting. Think wall, floor or table lamps and add candles. Warm white bulbs or soft golden tones will instantly make a space feel more inviting and bring out the warmer hues in the colours around.

Incorporating natural textures like wood or rattan to balance the softness of fabrics can bring an earthy warmth indoors. You know by now that we love a house plant but adding seasonal green foliage like eucalyptus or dried flowers adds life and texture without feeling summery.
Maybe consider designing or even creating small “nooks” where you can unwind. Simply moving a reading chair next to a floor lamp and adding a layered rug underfoot can create the feeling of a new and inviting space.Thoughtful touches like a side table for your book or a scented candle make these corners feel intentional and nurturing.
True comfort goes beyond visuals and Pinterest boards. Incorporate soft music, natural scents like cinnamon and tactile pieces like wool rugs or faux fur cushions. These sensory details create an environment that feels deeply comforting and calm.
A cosy home isn’t about adding more things, it’s about thoughtful choices that make you feel grounded and cared for. This winter, focus on layering warmth, texture, and light to create a sanctuary that invites you to slow down and stay a little longer.
